Description

Here we have an evocative view of Main Street Looking East, Applegate, Mich., on a real photo postcard sent to Scotland in 1919. Horse-drawn wagons and carts are on either side of the street of the small village and another is coming down the street. Thanks to the very clear photo, a sign for JK Stecker can be read on a storefront at the right. The card has minor edge and corner wear and creasing from international postal handling. The real photo image is just a bit faded. The Kruxo divided back card has a faint Applegate duplex postmark dated 1919, I think, that ties two 2c Washington stamps. The card is addressed to Miss Ina Cruickshank, Wellington Street, Aberdeen, Scotland. The message reads in part: "I am here with John's aunt. I expect John home in about two weeks so I am to stay here until he comes. I can't settle to write, Ina, so you will have to excuse me this time. Love from Joe (?). Applegate is not a place that shows up often on postcards, especially good real photo ones. An attractive and elusive older Applegate, Sanilac County, Michigan and real photo card. The postage on this lot is higher than I would like, which is down to Royal Mail rates and other charges beyond my control such as eBay and PayPal commissions. I use good British stamps to send all my lots and these should result in collectable stamps cancelled by hand in my village post office for the buyer. As I have some fixed-price lots, anyone who makes a purchase might want to look at them before paying. If you buy more than one item, please wait for my invoice so I can combine postage. When payment is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning -- as long as payment is made within three days. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item cannot go out until the following Monday. Ref 7136
